This documentation is for versions 1 & 2 of Mobile Web OSP.
Technical Requirements
The following are the technical requirements needed to install and get the modified Mobile Web project up and running:
- Apache 2 or greater
- PHP 5.1 or greater (must have PDO SQLite support, comes by default but check!)
- PEAR (only for version 2 of Mobile Web OSP if integrating iWVU)
- MySQL is not required but it is supported as a database but I haven't properly tested it.
This project has been tested in a Mac OS X 10.5 and RHEL environment. I have not tested this on Windows at all.
Getting the Hostname
You can use whatever hostname you want with your project but I suggest http://m.institution.edu/ for easy advertising as well the fact that the 'm' subdomain has become the standard for mobile websites. For the development of your project you may want to park the hostname while using a test hostname.
Other Suggestions
The following are mainly suggestions regarding content that you might want to have on hand to make your life easier/faster after installing the project:
- RSS feed for emergency information (if you have one)
- Campus emergency numbers & any extra phone numbers
- RSS feeds for campus news
- The hostname, DN, and any credentials you might need to access your LDAP-based directory
- Campus calendar info as .ics files to sync with Google Calendar
- Campus map data as a tab delimited file (refer to "Configuring Campus Map" for example format)
- Google Account for managing Google Calendar and Google Maps API
- The username for your YouTube account (if you have one)
